As School Nutrition Association (SNA) team members participating in the Eat Smart, Get Moving! personal wellness program enter the homestretch, the reports from the field echo a great deal of personal satisfaction. Over 85 teams are actively reporting their activity, with many more participating.
Launched by National Dairy Council® and SNA on August 1, 2006 during last year's Annual National Conference (ANC), the 39-week program is divided into three phases, with progressive goals to help people gradually eat more servings of low-fat dairy, whole grains and fruits and vegetables, plus increase daily physical activity.
"The goal of the program is to have more people take charge of their own wellness and be good role models for the children," explains Camellia Patey, MS, RD, SNS, vice president, school marketing for National Dairy Council. "What better way is there to enjoy wellness and be motivated than with the camaraderie of your colleagues and friends?"
Current teams are in Phase 3, which ends on April 30. Winners will be announced in June and recognized at this year's ANC in Chicago (see the session information below.) Based on the success of this year's program, Eat Smart, Get Moving! will be offered again in 2007-08.
"While winning is wonderful and we will celebrate with the winners at ANC, we also want to celebrate all the successes achieved by our participants and welcome you to join us next year," says Patey.
